Hey there y’all! Happy hump day! I am so ready for this week to be over and to be on vacation and can’t hardly believe there are only 6 days until Christmas!
Anyway, I am not sure if I’ve mentioned this before but Craig and I are in a life group together at Beach. I’ve always wanted to do the Disciple series and we thought it would be a great way to grow in our faith together over our first year of marriage. We’re definitely going to do the whole series if we can over the next few years. This class has been so rewarding and Pastor Carmen is an amazing gift from God.
A few weeks ago we were studying the Psalms. Just a brief overview of some main themes and the history behind the Psalms in general. Pastor Carmen decided to something incredibly rewarding with this lesson that I thought was so great I just had to share with y’all… we each had to write our own Psalm and present it in class two weeks later. At first I was like, oh no, what am I going to write? I felt like I wasn’t creative enough for this project. Well, as always, God had other plans.
I had been taking notes when reading the Psalms so I decided to take everything I’d learned and make it into a summary of our relationship with God. I made mine into three stanzas with a repeating refrain. The best part though was getting to hear everyone read their Psalms in class. Some people made their Psalm into a testimony. Some people used it as a means of praise. Some people used it to voice their sadness or confusion, especially in light of the tragedy in Newtown, CT.
The best part of this project was the different perspectives and length and style of the Psalms. Pastor Carmen is going to make them all into a book for us so we can have them forever. This was such a special project. I am so thankful for this class and these wonderful people and our wonderful teacher and our fantastic church. Craig and I are so blessed to be able to worship openly and in communion with others.
God bless y’all this holiday season. Take time to give thanks and to celebrate with loved ones. May you always remember that you are His creation and He loves you.
