Glory! Hosanna in the highest!

I’m sharing with you an old Christmas Carol that I just love. Ding Dong Merrily on High was written and published in a book of Christmas Carols in 1924. I find it interesting that the writers of the movie version of Little Women chose to have them sing this song seeing as it wasn’t even written when the story takes place. Anyway, I still love the song and it makes me miss traditional mass at Christmastime. Enjoy!

Lyrics:

Ding dong merrily on high!
In heav’n bells are ringing.
Ding dong verily the sky!
Is riven with angles singing!

Gloria,
Hosanna in excelcis

Gloria,
Hosanna in excelcis

Ee’n so here below below
Let steeple bells be swungen
And i’o i’o i’o
By preist and people sungen!

Gloria,
Hosanna in excelcis

Gloria,
Hosanna in excelcis

Pray you dutifully prime
your matin chime ye ringers!
May you beautifully rhyme
your evetime song ye singers!

Gloria,
Hosanna in excelcis

Gloria,
Hosanna in excelcis
