33 is the year for ME

Hey y’all… it’s my birthday. “Happy birthday to ME, happy birthday to ME, happy birthday dear CARON, happy birthday to ME!”

YAY. (seriously how cute am I in this picture?) 😉

Craig is taking me to a lovely dinner tonight and we’re having a celebration at the house this weekend that should be nice and having dinner with both his parents and mine one night. I’m so very blessed. Anyway, I started thinking about March 28 and knew of several celebrities with my birthdate and wondered who else was born then so I did a little research on Wikipedia. Turns out there are a lot of awesome things (and not so awesome things) that have happened on my birthday in years past that I felt the need to share it with y’all…

37 – Roman Emperor Caligula (3rd Emperor of the Roman Empire) accepts the titles of the Principate, entitled to him by the Senate.

364 – Roman Emperor Valentinian I appoints his brother Flavius Valens co-emperor.

1776 – Juan Bautista de Anza finds the site for the Presidio of San Francisco. (Where I visited last October)

1978 – The US Supreme Court hands down 5-3 decision in Stump v. Sparkman, 435 U.S. 349, a controversial case involving involuntary sterilization and judicial immunity.

On the actual day of my birth in 1979 – Operators of Three Mile Island‘s Unit 2 nuclear reactor outside of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania fail to recognize that a relief valve in the primary coolant system has stuck open following an unexpected shutdown. As a result, enough coolant drains out of the system to allow the core to overheat and partially melt down.

And also in 1979 – The British House of Commons passes a vote of no confidence against James Callaghan‘s government, precipitating a general election.

2005 – The 2005 Sumatra earthquake rocks Indonesia, and at magnitude 8.7 is the fourth strongest earthquake since 1965.

2006 – At least 1 million union members, students, and unemployed take to the streets in France in protest at the government’s proposed First Employment Contract law.

In addition, number of important people share my birthday including several musicians, most notably Lady Gaga whom I had absolutely no clue was an Aries but now it makes perfect sense why she is the way she is (don’t hold it against me y’all)…

1472 – Fra Bartolommeo, Italian artist (d. 1517)

1515 – Teresa of Avila, Spanish Carmelite nun and saint (d. 1582)

1818 – Wade Hampton III, American soldier and politician from South Carolina (d. 1902)

1836 – Frederick Pabst, American brewer (d. 1904) (although I don’t care for PBR)

1842 – William Harvey Carney, American Civil War officer (d. 1908)

1892 – Corneille Heymans, Belgian physiologist, Nobel Prize laureate (d. 1968)

1899 – August “Gussie” Anheuser Busch, Jr., American brewer and baseball executive (d. 1989)

1970 – Vince Vaughn, American actor

1973 – Matt Nathanson, American singer-songwriter

1975 – Matt Reis, American soccer goalkeeper

1975 – Kate Gosselin, American TV personality

1976 – Dave Keuning, American guitar player (The Killers)

The actual day of my birth in 1979 – Crystal Cox, American track and field athlete and reality television contestant on the show Survivor (plus, she’s from Virginia y’all)

1981 – Julia Stiles, American actress (my sister’s fav)

1986 – Lady Gaga, American singer-songwriter and dancer (and overall eccentric)

Anyway, thought that was an interesting list and felt like I should record it somewhere for posterity. Hope that y’all are having a wonderful week and I hope that this year is as wonderful to you as it is for me! God bless.

XOXO
