Beautiful Star of Bethlehem

Today I’m posting one of my most favorite Christmas songs… this one is an old bluegrass hymn and you can’t help but sing along. I’m sharing with you a version by The Judds although honestly I love Alecia Nugent’s version best. Of course, I can’t find it on YouTube but if you like bluegrass music you’ll want to pick up O Christmas Tree (A Bluegrass Collection for the Holidays). It’s fantastic!

I hope that you are enjoying the holidays and not stressing too much. I think that the consumerism of this culture can get out of hand and detract from the meaning of the season. We are called to love. We are not called to out-spend our neighbor or buy love from people with gifts. This year I made a few scarfs and got little things for my loved ones. Nothing extravagant mostly because I cannot afford it but also because it’s not what’s really important. What is important is the two weeks I’m able to take off to spend with my family. The time shared together means more to me than any material gift!

Here are the lyrics:

O beautiful star of Bethlehem
Shining far through shadows dim
Giving the light for those who long have gone
Guiding the wise men on their way
Unto the place where Jesus lay
O beautiful star of Bethlehem
Shine on

O beautiful star the hope of life
Guiding the pilgrims through the night
Over the mountains ’til the break of dawn
Into the land of perfect day
It will give out a lovely ray
O beautiful star of Bethlehem
Shine on

O beautiful star of Bethlehem
Shine upon us until the glory dawns
Give us a lamp to light the way
Unto the land of perfect day
O beautiful star of Bethlehem
Shine on

O beautiful star the hope of grace
For the redeemed, the good and the blessed
Yonder in glory when the crown is won
Jesus is now the star divine
Brighter and brighter He will shine
O beautiful star of Bethlehem
Shine on

O beautiful star of Bethlehem
Shine upon us until the glory dawns
Give us a lamp to light the way
Unto the land of perfect day
O beautiful star of Bethlehem
Shine on

O beautiful star of Bethlehem
Shine on
