GhettoChristmas

Hey y’all! Welcome to another Music Monday!

Around this time each year I am reminded of probably the funniest Christmas song ever written/performed. I want to share with you today the lyrics to the song, “What you want for Christmas” (also known as the 12 Ghetto Days of Christmas) from the All Star Christmas album. I’m attaching the song (click the link at the top “GhettoChristmas”) for your listening pleasure. Please know that this is all in fun … laugh out loud and enjoy!

(Quad City DJz feat. 69 Boyz & K- Nock)

They’re Singing Deck The Halls

Today I’m listening to Christmas music on Pandora (yes I broke down and purchased a plan so I can listen without interruption) and “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” by Darlene Love was playing and I got to thinking (can’t you smell the wood burning?). You know, this song is a much better version than Mariah Carey‘s. I mean, I still like the Mariah Carey Merry Christmas album, don’t get me wrong, but I like this version of the song so much more.

I like that This video is from an episode of the Late Show. The girl still has it man … she’s awesome. I like her singing this song better than anyone else. Especially love the version from the album A Christmas Gift For You which features something from all of Phil Spector’s major acts. It is one of Darlene’s solo recordings without the Blossoms, and possibly has the Ronettes on back-up. And now, for your listening/viewing pleasure … without further adieu … enjoy!

Welcome to Tarpon Run

Hey there! While browsing the interwebs I came across an article MSN did about the new Southern Living Idea House in Texas. I’m including my favorite rooms below but please … visit their websites for more information and pictures, as well as a room-by-room tour and floor plans. Sometimes, when it’s cold and blustery outside it’s nice to look at sunny pictures and dream of a tropical vacation. Enjoy!

Welcome to Tarpon Run

From Southern Living’s 2009 Texas Idea House, find the best design ideas and style tips for a coastal retreat. For example: You can give a brand-new house lived-in personality with walls covered in horizontal shiplap planking. The horizontal lines mimic the outside railings and add texture to the large living spaces.

Make small spaces live big

A window-filled alcove functions like a dining room, with a casual table, two slipcovered end chairs and a pillow-topped banquette. The built-in bench and wall of windows make this small space seem much larger. Interior designer Paige Schnell of Tracery Interiors chose two vintage light fixtures, hung with nautical rope instead of standard chains, to illuminate the space.

Raise the kitchen

“We created a stadium effect by raising the kitchen one step up,” explains architect Louis Nequette. The counters in the kitchen are standard height, but because of the elevation change, they reach bar height from the opposite side of the island in the family room.

Mix materials

Schnell balanced beauty and utility with her countertop choices: Calcutta marble on the island and maple butcher block on either side of the stove. “The extra-large piece of white marble lightens up the space and is beautiful on top of the espresso-colored cabinets,” she says. As a contrast to the dark cabinets on the island, Schnell selected unfinished cabinets for the rest of the kitchen and had them painted to match the crisp white trim. Sleek nickel hardware adds a modern touch to the Shaker-style cabinets.

Open up the room with a glass wall

Instead of a basic doorway between the downstairs bedroom and bath, the architects designed a glass wall as a divider, with grommeted curtain panels that can be pulled for privacy. The glass wall visually enlarges the space and adds a sense of calm to the dramatically stenciled room. The large floating bathtub invites relaxation and serenity.

Install a built-in headboard

To create an architectural headboard in a boxy space, Schnell designed a 12-inch-deep, 5-foot-high wall along the back of the upstairs bedroom. She centered the bed in front of the wall, with industrial-style tables on either side. To fill out the eclectic look, she stacked books and leaned artwork atop the ledge.

Marry exterior and interior styles

The upstairs master suite showcases a modern barn door, which slides along a track to close off the bath. Because the exterior architectural style of the house borrows from farmhouse vernacular, with board-and-batten siding and a galvanized roof, the barn door is a fitting interior detail.

Get comfortable outside

This second-floor porch, just above the front porch, has a sense of privacy, with solid railings and overhanging eaves.

Liven up the walls

Schnell designed a horizontal stripe pattern for the playroom walls with vibrant shades of aqua, green and pink. Tip: Use painter’s tape, a level and lots of patience to get this look ― you must wait for each row to dry before you move on to the next.

The architects exercised true space efficiency in this room by carving out even more sleeping space. Because this is the only room in the house with a television, the built-in double-wide daybed, covered by two twin mattresses, serves as video-game perch by day and comfy bed by night. Two beanbags round out the daytime seating.

Use every inch

Influenced by train bunks, the architects designed a row of three built-in beds on the third-floor loft, each lit with a marine-style sconce and closed off with curtains. Storage areas for the bunks line up across the hall, with a cubby and a drawer for each bed.

Loft storage

Built-in cubbies and drawers are great for toy storage or as a place for kids to unpack suitcases.

Amp up your storage space

With rigs to hang kayaks and a sink to clean freshly caught fish, this hardworking garage takes beach storage to new heights.

Let it be Christmas …

Hey y’all … welcome to another Music Monday. Today I’m sharing with you “Let It Be Christmas” by Alan Jackson. This is one of my most favorite Christmas songs … and I’m sharing it with you today. I absolutely love this time of year! If I could have it year-round I would.

This weekend I should be having my annual Christmas party. I should be writing Christmas cards and mailing them. I should be out shopping for presents. But this year has been a difficult one and those are realities not meant for this year. Instead I am remaining grateful that I have a roof over my head and food in my belly and friends/family who love me. I hope you watch this video and remember how you have been blessed …

Let it be Christmas everywhere
In the hearts of all people both near and afar
Christmas everywhere
Feel the love of the season wherever you are
On the small country roads lined with green mistletoe
Big city streets where a thousand lights glow

Let it be Christmas everywhere
Let heavenly music fill the air
Let every heart sing let every bell ring
The story of hope and joy and peace
And let it be Christmas everywhere
Let heavenly music fill the air
Let anger and fear and hate disappear
Let there be love that lasts through the year
And let it be Christmas
Christmas everywhere

Let it be Christmas everywhere
With the gold and the silver, the green and the red
Christmas everywhere
In the smiles of all children asleep in their beds
In the eyes of young babies their first fallen snow
Elderlys’ memories that never grow old

Let it be Christmas everywhere
Let heavenly music fill the air
Let every heart sing let every bell ring
The story of hope and joy and peace
And let it be Christmas everywhere
Let heavenly music fill the air
Let anger and fear and hate disappear
Let there be love that lasts through the year
And let it be Christmas
Christmas everywhere

Let it be Christmas everywhere
In the songs that we sing and the gifts that we bring
Christmas everywhere
In what this day means and what we believe
From the sandy white beaches where blue water rolls
Snow covered mountains and valleys below

Let it be Christmas everywhere
Let heavenly music fill the air
Let every heart sing let every bell ring
The story of hope and joy and peace
And let it be Christmas everywhere
Let heavenly music fill the air
Let anger and fear and hate disappear
Let there be love that lasts through the year
And let it be Christmas
Christmas everywhere
Christmas everywhere
Christmas everywhere

A Perfect Bungalow

Julia, over at Hooked On Houses, is asking for this home as a Christmas present and I can totally see why. I’m a huge fan of homes … all shapes and sizes. With a father who works in luxury home construction all you do all day long is dream of homes. So, I clicked the link and fell in love.

Here you can see the rear view. This plan is definitely tiny and probably couldn’t be used for anything other than a young couple just starting out or an older couple with an empty nest. When you first look at the home you can sense the coziness and comfort. When you look inside the home there are plenty of wonderful details that demonstrate clearly that craftsman vibe. Check it out … and while you’re at it … you can buy it for me!?! :-)
