Hey y’all … last night I was stressed from work (remember what I have to deal with each day) and I couldn’t get “Our Lips Are Sealed” by The Go Go’s out of my head! You would think that “Vacation” would be more appropriate (pretty sure the water-ski scene is the most awesome thing ever).
Maybe it’s because we have such amazing stories to tell about these ridiculous students that I really feel like my lips are sealed from so much that I could say and don’t. Mostly, because as Dooce so finely put it, I don’t want to get fired … but also, because I’m saving it for my book! So, because I want to listen to it over and over I am posting it here for us to enjoy (bonus: I’ve included lyrics)!
Can you hear them
They talk about us
Telling lies
Well that’s no surprise
Can you see them
See right through them
They have no shield
No secrets to reveal
It doesn’t matter what they say
In the jealous games people play
Our lips are sealed
Careless talk
Through paper walls
We can’t stop them
Only laugh at them
Spreading rumors
So far from true
Dragged up from the underworld
Just like some precious pearl
It doesn’t matter what they say
In the jealous games people play
Our lips are sealed
Pay no mind to what they say
It doesn’t matter anyway
Our lips are sealed
There’s a weapon
We must use
In our defense
Silence
When you look at them
Look right through them
That’s when they’ll disappear
That’s when you’ll be feared
Hush, my darling
Don’t you cry
Quiet, angel
Forget their lies
Seriously … I can’t get enough of the big hair and leggings and neon colors! Just for good measure here’s a live version of “Our Lips Are Sealed” and “Vacation” from when The Go Go’s appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson (sorry about the poor quality). Can I just say how much I loved and still love Belinda Carlisle. I still have her 1987 tape Heaven On Earth and I even listen to it in the car from time to time. Yes, I have a tape deck in my car and am sad for the day I don’t have one because that means I’ll have to download MP3′s for all those tapes I own.
Hope y’all are having a great week so far, and If you get really bored here’s the link to “We Got The Beat” … enjoy!
I have a college story from Jo about one of those stupid students (another girl in one of her classes), but I don’t know if I can safely tell that one on my blog either! I may yet, but I don’t want to paint Jo in the wrong light. She is loving college anyway, but is having trouble with her math teacher who doesn’t speak very good English. She says sometimes he even says he can’t remember the English word for what he’s trying to say and then just says it in Hindi. Um…okay. That’s a little frustrating for students who aren’t math whizzes to begin with.
